what to wear for your spring/summer sessions - 5 easy tips!
Have you been putting off booking a session this winter? We get it. Sometimes it’s hard to motivate when there’s snow on the ground and a chill in the air. But, good news…Spring is here and Easter is around the corner! And, it’s the perfect time for a photo session—flowers are blooming, the weather is warming up, and the natural light is stunning. To make sure you look (and feel) your best in your photos, here are five tips on what to wear for your spring (and Summer!) sessions.
1) Embrace Soft, light Colors
Spring is all about soft and airy colors. Pastels, soft neutrals, and light earth tones photograph beautifully against the vibrant greens and florals of the season. Some examples: blush pink, baby blue, soft yellows, and sage green…all perfect for a timeless look with a Spring/Summer backdrop. (FYI, we offer multiple outdoor sessions in the Spring/Summer).
2. Coordinate, Don’t Match
We get this question often, “Should we all wear the same thing to the session?” While this might have been a trend years ago, we recommend coordinating outfits instead of matching. Start out by selecting one outfit (or item) you love, and working other outfits around it. Maybe it’s a favorite shirt, scarf, or dress…the choices are endless! Get creative with it too; you can mix complementary tones and textures to create a visually appealing, cohesive look without being too uniform/match-y. But, if matching is what you and your family want, then by all means - do it!
3. Add Layers and Accessories (have fun with it!)
Spring and Summer weather can be unpredictable, so layering is key! Light cardigans, denim jackets, or scarves not only add dimension to your outfit but also keep you comfortable. Accessories like a fun belt, interesting jewelry, or a floral crown can add a fun seasonal touch. Remember, accessories aren’t just for your kids! Have fun with your outfits and your comfort and confidence will shine through in your photos.
4. Keep It fresh and Flowy
Choose outfits with movement! Flowy dresses, skirts, or lightweight buttondown shirts create a natural and effortless look that give off carefree and polished vibes. Fabrics like linen and cotton are breathable and add a soft, dreamy touch to your photos. Nothing says Spring/Summer like a beautiful maxi dress or wide-legged jeans and a fun top.
5. Keep Comfort in Mind
Your outfit should make you feel positive and comfortable. Avoid anything too tight or restrictive, and make sure to choose shoes that you can move around in easily—especially if your session involves walking in grassy areas. We all know that when we’re uncomfortable, it shows! Most important tip: select outfits that you and your family enjoy wearing - trust us, it will make a difference and you’ll thank us later.
